Observability & monitoring

Deployment of monitoring solutions that give visibility over production applications and shorten incident detection and resolution times.

See what is happening in production

A production application with no observability is flying at night with no instruments. When an incident occurs, every minute spent searching is a minute of downtime. I deploy monitoring solutions that give full, continuous visibility over your applications.

The three pillars

  • Metrics — real-time health: latency, traffic, errors, resource saturation.
  • Traces — a request’s path across your services, to pinpoint exactly where time is lost.
  • Logs — the contextual detail, correlated with metrics and traces.

Reducing MTTD and MTTR

Two indicators sum up the quality of monitoring:

  • MTTD (mean time to detect) — how long before you know an incident is happening;
  • MTTR (mean time to resolve) — how long before it is fixed.

I work on both: relevant alerts that detect early without drowning teams, and instrumentation that points to the root cause.

What I put in place

  • Instrumentation of applications and infrastructure.
  • Readable dashboards, oriented to both business and operations.
  • Calibrated alerting — detect without saturating.
  • Service-level indicators (SLI / SLO) and error budgets.
  • Handover to teams for autonomous operation.

FAQ

Observability and monitoring — what is the difference?

Monitoring answers 'is it working?'; observability answers 'why is it not working?'. Correlated metrics, traces and logs let you understand an incident, not just notice it.

How do you shorten incident resolution time?

By instrumenting applications properly, correlating metrics, traces and logs, and setting up relevant alerts that point to the cause rather than the symptom.
